Manufacturing Process
The manufacturing of MB roofing starts with bitumen, also known as asphalt, which is the black sticky substance used for paving roadways and sealing built-up roofs. The bitumen is altered by the addition of one of several chemical compounds that increase the flexibility and tensile strength. The resulting “modified bitumen” is then applied to polyester or fiberglass backing that provides structural integrity for the bitumen. A protective top coating of reflective granulated material or colored stone particles may be added. The layered membrane is then pressed, cooled and wrapped into a roll, before being used for Katy roofing homes.
